IT’S A DEAL

Renault has announced that British Gas will be its preferred supplier of vehicle charging points for its new range of 100 per cent electric zero emission cars and vans in the UK. The deal builds on British Gas’ agreement with Renault’s Alliance partner, Nissan, to be the preferred supplier of charge points to its electric car in the UK.

The agreement with Renault, announced at the technical forum for the RAC

Future Car Challenge at Imperial College London, means that British Gas will supply and install electric vehicle charge points in homes and businesses across the country. Renault will launch the electric Kangoo van Z.E. later this year. The announcement is further indication of the growing electric vehicle market in the UK. Experts predict that by 2020, electric vehicles could account for approximately 10 per cent of all cars sold in the UK. Dean Keeling, managing director of British Gas Smart Homes, said, ‘The market for electric vehicles in Britian is growing fast. With our national network of electrical engineers, our electricity supply business, our solar panel business and our roll out of smart meters, British Gas is well placed to be at the forefront of that market.’

GREATER POWER

Citroën has launched its most powerful LCV models yet - the new Euro 5 Relay 35 HDi 180 six speed manual panel van and chassis cabs. Following on from the introduction of the Euro 5 Nemo range earlier this year, this new Relay engine is the next stage in Citroën’s programme of introducing even lower emissions and more fuel effi cient Euro 5 HDi engines across its entire LCV range. The new Euro 5 Relay 35 HDi 180 six speed manual range replaces the previous Euro 4 Relay 35 HDi 160 six speed manual models. The new 3.0HDi Euro 5 180 engine delivers a 12.5 per cent power increase, up from 160hp to 180hp. Peak torque is unchanged at 400Nm, but the new HDi 180 develops this at just 1,400rpm, 300rpm lower than the superseded HDi 160 engine, for even greater driveability. Signifi cant fuel effi ciency has also been achieved with the more powerful Euro 5 HDi 180 engine. On the combined cycle, the Euro 5 Relay 35 L3H2 HDi 180 six speed manual panel van returns 33.2mpg - a 9.2 per cent improvement over the Euro 4 Relay HDi 160 powered panel van’s 30.4mpg.
