CONTRACT NEWS SOCIAL SAFETY
Social housing provider Wolverhampton Homes has responded to the rising number of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning incidents across the UK, along with the requests from residents’ associations, by installing CO alarms from Sprue Safety Products into its 19,640 properties with gas appliances. Wolverhampton Homes has been working in partnership with Dodd Group to select and fit the devices that will protect tenants from this risk. Wolverhampton Homes had set criteria it had to fulfil when selecting the CO alarms.
Sprue Safety Products’ FireAngel CO-9X alarm was selected. This alarm utilises the latest electrochemical cell sensor technology to provide peace of mind through reliability and accurate measuring of CO levels. An integral fault LED allows tenants to recognise any issues with the alarm, and its easy to use test button provides a straightforward solution for residents of all ages. A particularly beneficial feature
for Wolverhampton Homes is the diagnostic capabilities of the alarm. This offers the housing provider reassurance that any episodes where the alarm has activated are recorded for use in any subsequent enquiries.
FIT FOR HEROES
Inviron is undertaking a full design and build M&E installation at a groundbreaking, purpose built army recovery centre in Colchester, in conjunction with client Morgan Sindall, the Royal Military Police Association, the MoD, Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion. Morgan Sindall has started construction work on the Colchester Garrison Personnel
Recovery Centre, a purpose built venue that will help injured servicemen and women. The centre will provide residential accommodation for 29 soldiers and 31 day- attendees. It will give wounded, injured and sick soldiers the care that they need in their recovery and support their return to duties or their transition into civilian life. The facility will be built in accordance with ‘DREAM’ requirements, which is the equivalent to BREEAM for MoD sites. The M&E installation includes natural ventilation, underfloor heating, domestic water services, power, lighting, nurse call/staff attack alarms and data cabling.
Building started on site in February with Minister for Defence, Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, Andrew Robathan MP, attending to cut the first turf. The Personnel Recovery Centre is due for completion in early 2012.

‘Treetops’, a highly insulated property which will feature in the new BBC series ‘To Build or not to Build’, has been specified with Total Home Environment’s Premium and Vanvex systems for heat recovery ventilation, space heating and domestic hot water. The 400m2
re-enforced concrete floors and steel studwork with an aluminium roof. The decision to install the Premium system was made as the highly insulated property required very little heating. Total Home Environment’s Premium range combines heat recovery ventilation with heat pump technology to harness energy more efficiently from outgoing air, forming a fundamental part of a low energy heating solution for the home. A contemporary wood burning stove and underfloor heating located in the bathrooms of the property have been utilised to provide supplementary heating during the winter months. In the summer, the Premium unit provides fresh, cooled air into the property. Also installed at the property is a whole house central vacuum system from Total Home Environment, making it easy to keep the prestigious property clean and ensuring a healthier living space.
