bottom hand to top. This was not far off being a prize-winning performance. Mark MacKenzie gave us the Lament for the Children. He was too early with the gracenote after the double echoes in the ground, and variation 2 was never in the required rhythm.Overall tempo variation to variation was good but delivery untidy as regards fingering, timing and
technique. The Lament for CaptainMacDougall was played byMatthew Supranowicz. It suffered from a general lack of expression first to
last. This piper needs to study with a respected teacher so that he learns the interpretive skills needed for ceol mor. Pipe and fingering are good so he has the tools. Eric Christie’sMacCrimmon’s Sweetheart never got going, hampered as it was by a poor pipe and memory lapses. The unanimous result: 1. R Campbell, 2. B Tidswell, 3. S Easton, 4. J Quay, 5.M MacKenzie.Overall the standard of instrument was not as good as it should be for a contest of this importance and I think amove to a warmer, more intimate room on campus would aid the pipers and make for a more pleasurable experience for the audience. I would urge all pipers in Australia to
support this event. It is the only one of its type in their country and deserves patronage. Next year will be a special occasion with former winners invited to attend the celebrations. Other results: Silver Medal – 1. Tam
