The ceiling on the other hand is far from refined, stripped back with exposed riveted beams and services it brings an altogether agricultural feel. The boot display follows suit, with upturned metal luggage cases and trunks stacked together and supported by luggage straps, then powder coated in a truly British palette of Land Rover and MG. The staircase in its multi-coloured and striped pattern on a matt grey base is functional. But together with inlaid brass tailor’s measuring tapes and wrought iron balusters with painted timber handrails, adds to the feel of a country home.

Antique dresser style display units and tables are a modern take on a domestic classic. Constructed out of solid oak all the joint and construction details of the furniture are expressed, demonstrating further craftsmanship and functionality. Freestanding, sculptural merchandising fixtures have been crafted from metal poles crudely welded and propped up with oak posts similar to bean canes. These spiral high, antler-like, above the well cut clothing. The cash desk on first look appears to be a draper’s cabinet, but up close is found to be a well-finished, contemporary oak framed glass cabinet with a picture of the drapers unit behind. It lies before a large, wall mounted roll of printed brown paper – no digital technology on display in this designer outlet!

Elsewhere splashes of colour add spontaneity to the store. Hand finished raw oak drawers and table legs have been dipped in bright rural paint colours; a witty reference to muddy walks in the country, but also synonymous with the optimistic Joules brand philosophy and their famous ‘twists on a classic’ designs. A quirky lighting fixture created from milk bottles hangs above the cash desk and other playful bespoke feature lighting – bird perch and nests, are a whimsical nod to country living – ‘Living the good life’. And, help create a truly unique instore experience.
