T

he online professional doc- tors’ network, doctors.net.uk, has launched a dedicated online resource to keep its members in- formed of the latest news on the NHS reforms.

It will also include a discussion fo- rum aimed at especially at uncov- ering the long-term implications for local clinical practice.

It has news stories displayed by re- gion and there will also be a grow- ing bank of case studies provided by doctors across the country, alongside interviews with medical experts, economists and politi- cians, and video clips from key events.

The NHS Reforms Resource Centre, open to all doctors.net.uk members, follows the launch last year of a dedicated online resource to help GPs deliver the new com- missioning process announced by the government.

Dr Tim Ringrose, medical direc- tor of doctors.net.uk, said: “The changes outlined in the Health and Social Care Bill represent the big- gest shake-up of the NHS since its inception and would fundamentally change the way that doctors work. “Doctors have expressed a clear

demand for a dedicated resource that will not only provide them with all the latest news, views and infor- mation on the Bill, but also enable them to discuss its implications with their colleagues.

“Whatever ends up happening with the plans for the NHS, the NHS Reforms Centre will provide invalu- able support in these challenging and fast changing times.”

On May 25, members of the online network held a virtual summit on the reforms.

The interview panel was com- prised of Dr Clare Gerada, chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners; Professor Lindsey Davies, president of the UK faculty of Public Health; and Sir Richard Thompson, president of the Royal College of Physicians.

A full summary of the discussion was then presented to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley and the Prime Minister, with a view to members’ views being incorporat- ed into revisions to the proposed legislation.
