Training New Shooters with Long Barrelled Pistols

The fine spring weather has got the 2011 season off to a great start with 883 scorecard submitted at the Bisley Spring Action Weekend (SAW - 26th/27th March) including three new records being set; with Gwyn Roberts achieving a 1918 (168X) in GRCF Bianchi and Mel Beard making 1910 (138X) in the Bianchi LBR. The third record; 592 (26X) in the Timed and Precision Two Long Barrelled Pistol Match from Phil Stead got me thinking of the sudden growth of the LBP from a virtual novelty a couple of years ago to nearly 10% of cards submitted at the Spring Meeting

being matches shot with them (85 in all).

The LBR class runs parallel with virtually every GR event and, not unsurprisingly, it is the more dynamic events where it features most. No precision card at all were submitted at the SAW but the Timed and Precision, Multi Target, Phoenix A, 1500, Bianchi, Advancing Target and Speed Steels Matches had entries.

This got me to thinking about the probationer members new to shooting in my own club and the licensing rules that seem to be applied to long barrelled pistols and revolvers. hope the upsurge of interest in the interest in
