China Airlines picks EzyFreight

TAIWAN’S China Airlines has begun using the EzyFreight web-based platform from Global Logistics System (HK) for electronic messages sent between the airline’s cargo department and its agents. Since 23 March, agents have been

Charter space in demand

AIRBRIDGECARGO Airlines (ABC), the Moscow-based B747 freighter operator, has been handling a growing number of charters for its parent Volga-Dnepr Group. According to Volga-Dnepr, the success

of its ‘Cargo Supermarket’ of air logistics solutions has “resulted in a significant increase in demand for Boeing 747F charter flights for the transportation of non-standard cargoes”. The Russian carrier said that over the

course of the last three months it has successfully completed 30 charters, with more expected soon. These have included shipping 200

tonnes of relief cargo from Moscow to Islamabad and 100 tonnes of aid to Haiti.

Dennis Gliznoutsa, group commercial

director (charters) at Volga-Dnepr, commented: “After 20 years, our reputation for moving heavy and outsize air cargo using our ramp-loading AN- 124-100 and IL-76TD-90VD freighters is known by customers all over the world.” He went on: “Using ABC’s B747s as

part of our ‘Cargo Supermarket’ concept extends our capabilities even further. “Often the 747 can be the most

suitable aircraft to meet a specific charter request but customers still require our expertise in transporting non-standard cargoes. “This has resulted in the strong growth we are experiencing,” Gliznoutsa added.

Korean Air Cargo ups B747-8F order

BOEING HAS confirmed that Korean Air Cargo is to buy two more B747-8 freighters in an acquisition that would be worth a total of US$693 million at list prices. The new order takes the tally in the Korean flag-carrier’s order book for the 140-

tonne payload B747-8 freighter up to seven, as well as an order for five of the aircraft’s B747-8 ‘Intercontinental’ passenger version. “The B747-8 freighter will provide tremendous economics and reliability to Korean

Air’s global operations,” noted Marlin Dailey, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president sales. Korean Air is so far one of only two airlines to order both of the US aircraft

manufacturer’s all-new freighter offerings – the B747-8F and the 103-tonne payload B777F. The other airline to order both freighters is Dubai-based Emirates SkyCargo.

on the new development, Eddy Liu, vice president, Cargo Services and Logistics Division at China Airlines, observed: “Our decision to choose Global Logistics System (HK) was prompted by the e- Freight initiative, which is a clear global trend. “The air freight industry is

align with the industry trends and requirements.” Furthermore, Lionel Kwok, CEO of

the Hong Kong-based company, remarked that Global Logistics System (HK) is “confident that we can bring China Airlines a major step forward in the way of simplifying air cargo processes through quality data exchange”. He added: “We will work closely with

China Airlines to speed up the penetration of e-Freight, which shall deliver enormous cost and efficiency benefits for the entire network in the long run.”
