AS PART OF French relief efforts to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the Paris office of charter broker Air Partner arranged for the world’s only AN-225 freighter to carry 145 tonnes of aid supplies from Châteauroux airport to Tokyo-Narita International airport in March.
AMB PROPERTY Corporation, the San Francisco-based owner, operator and lessor of real estate based on distribution gateways, has formed AMB China Logistics Venture I, a joint venture with HIP China Logistics Investments. The new entity will work to acquire, develop, operate and dispose of logistics properties in key markets in China.
DUSSELDORF International airport welcomed Air China on 27 March, with three times a week A330 connections to Beijing as part of the gateway’s new summer schedule. A fourth weekly frequency will be added by the Chinese flag- carrier from 23 June.
EAST HORIZON Airlines, Afghanistan’s newest cargo airline, is set to take delivery of its first aircraft – four CASA 212- 100 ramp-loading cargo carriers acquired from EADS CASA. The airline’s first operational routes will be inside Afghanistan but there are plans to expand to the UAE, western China and India.
Express integrator ups Hong Kong - EU links
UPS HAS LAUNCHED four more direct B747F weekly flights between Hong Kong and Europe, now offering a total of 11 weekly services between the Far Eastern trading hub and Cologne. The new services operate Monday to Thursday, adding to the seven that already
fly the route via Dubai. Integrator UPS said that beyond improving shipper options and offering an accelerated service, “the new direct flights also will change the landscape for air freight shipments”. The company noted that, using the UPS express freight service, shipments can
now be delivered within a day to a total of 18 countries and 39 cities across Europe, including Barcelona, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Prague. “Hong Kong is a strategically important market for UPS with its proximity to
mainland China and its well-established trade connections with the rest of the world,” commented Dan Brutto, UPS International president. Moreover, he continued: “With the EU becoming an important trading partner
for many Asian markets, the launch of these flights shows a commitment to Asian businesses by providing them additional and faster options on these trade lanes.” Wolfgang Flick, president of UPS Europe, noted: Over the last few years, Hong Kong to Europe has become one of the fastest-growing trade lanes.”
Slow February, but AAT begins the year well
ASIA AIRFREIGHT Terminal (AAT) , one of the main cargo handlers at Hong Kong International airport, reports a throughput of 42,025 tonnes in February, a slight drop of 0.3 percent year-on-year. AAT general manager for corporate
development Nelson Lee pointed out that the month containing Chinese New Year is usually a slower month. In the face of increased oil prices, he said

the effects of the slowdown “may linger a while and is going to bring new challenges for growth this year”. AAT’s cumulative cargo throughput for the first two months of the year was
