Gasimov highlights “strong

competition”

Way performed the first ever commercial B747-400F flight into Kabul International airport, carrying 78 tons of cargo. Silk Way is currently looking

to acquire two brand new B767-300 freighters, which are expected in the second half of next year. Gasimov feels: “Strong competition

means that operators must react rapidly and provide high quality services. We hope to carve out our own unique place ... contributing with the development of a Caspian network and offering connections between East and West.” Looking beyond Europe, he said: “We

have already tested Africa routes, where we also see potential and are now ready to operate on an ad hoc charter basis.”

Located next to the Kenyan airport’s

newly extended freight apron, with direct airside access, the Transglobal Cargo Centre will help the airport to accommodate future growth. The first airlines to be handled through

the facility when it opens will be Emirates SkyCargo from Dubai and Nairobi-based freighter operator Astral Aviation.
