multimodal cargo agent BNM Freight Forwarders, says that although air
freight constitutes just 10 percent of the company’s business, he is hopeful that the sector will grow. A primary reason for this optimism is the rising number of international companies investing in Tanzania. “We are receiving more quotes and tenders, especially in terms of equipment and spare parts for the mining industry.”
EXPANDING ETHIOPIAN Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines is continuing to expand its network with the launch in May of daily non-stop B777-200LR flights from Addis Ababa to Beijing.
Noting that the airline offers a whole range of services to China
each week, Gobena Mikael, senior vice president global sales and chief commercial officer, commented: “With daily non-stop services to Beijing, 10 weekly services to Guangzhou, and with four and five weekly services to Hong Kong and Hangzhou respectively, Ethiopian will be able to offer more links between Africa and China than any other carrier.” He highlighted the “growing social and economic tie
between China and Africa”, as well as the airline’s role in bolstering that partnership.
