Animal Export Center

As a member of the Animal Transportation Association, ATA, Leipzig/Halle Airport is also a reliable partner for handling live animals.

Since August 2010, Leipzig/Halle Airport has been operating the Animal Export Center covering 1,300 square metres. A large delivery area can also be used as animal-run, should the need arise. Common and relaxation rooms are available for the attendants accompanying the animals.

Large animal stalls - particularly for horses - and several other stabling opportunities are available to keep the animals comfortable. Veterinary staff and customs are available 24 hours a day. A Border Inspection Post to carry out all the inspections required to import and transit animals from third countries complements the range of services provided.

PortGround GmbH

PortGround GmbH, a sister company of Leipzig/Halle Airport, offers a wide range of ground and cargo handling services. The company employs IATA certified staff for handling aircraft of all types and cargo of all kinds, including large animals.

Border inspection post

In 2007 the newly-built border inspection post at Leipzig/Halle Airport was officially handed over to the District Office of North Saxony as the occupants. The airport now possesses the only border inspection post in the Free State of Saxony, of which 22 exist nationwide.

The work of the border inspection post ensures that only safe foods which comply with the food regulatory requirements of the European Union get to the consumer via traders. Furthermore the checks at Leipzig/Halle Airport should prevent dangerous animal epidemics being brought into Germany and into the area of the EU.

Occupants and tenants of the building are the Food Inspection Office and the Veterinary Inspection Office of the

AIR LOGISTICSCHINA 25

DH Beteiligungen AG will set up a logistics security centre at Cargo Area South to ensure safe shipment, storage and handling of high-value products and industrial goods. The operators of the logistics security centre will find a perfect environment for their business at the Leipzig/Halle cargo hub airport. Due to this investment, a logistics facility will be established at Leipzig/Halle Airport to allow increasingly complex transport, handling, storage and distribution processes involving high-value products and goods to be carried out appropriately in the long run. The new logistics security centre will also satisfy the ever-growing need for security.

Strategic Cooperation between Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding and Shenzhen Airport Group

In 2010 Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding – acting on behalf of Leipzig/Halle Airport – and Shenzhen Airport (Group) Company Limited – acting for Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport – signed a cooperation agreement during the leading Chinese transport fair, the China (Shenzhen) International Logistics and Transportation Fair (CLIF). The arrangement is primarily directed at the air freight sector and the intended cooperation covers market processing and customer acquisition and an exchange of information and personnel.

Both air freight sites view themselves as development engines in their respective regions. Both Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Leipzig/Halle Airport have the necessary infrastructure and the required capacity to handle significant volumes of European or Asia/Pacific flows of goods and therefore pool international commodity flows through their airports.
