Brooks: Pure and simple

Brooks Running’s new PureProject collection is a range of footwear designed to promote natural motion. David Pittman reports

T

he Brooks PureProject collection is a new line of footwear that promotes natural motion and a unique running experience in a lightweight package, so it is claimed.

Priced from £90 upwards, the collection includes PureConnect, PureFlow, PureCadence and PureGrit, each of which are available in men’s and women’s designs.

Brooks says the range is biomechanically designed to provide a more efficient natural stride by promoting an individual’s ideal alignment through five unique features: a heel that shifts the ground contact point forward to promote proper alignment and reduce lever arms; toe flex to enhance feel during the run and for a more efficient push-off; a nav band to create a dynamic fit around the arch; an anatomical last that mimics the shape of and works more efficiently with the foot; and a BioMogo DNA midsole that creates an adaptive area that responds to each runner’s individual needs.

PureProject shoes also have a lower profile and a wider base, says Brooks, contributing to their 'inherent stability' and improved performance in a variety of running conditions.

Brooks says its take on a minimalist shoe is taking a pro-active approach to getting biomechanical technology engineered into a lightweight package, as opposed to other brands which have ‘simply taken things out of the shoe to be lighter with no resulting performance benefits’. “They have done less with less,” Brooks says.

PureProject shoes also offer different levels of pronation control, but ones that are designed to allow the runner to feel the road and connect to the run. The PureProject collection features models with varying degrees of assurance designed to offer ‘the perfect measure of feel’ for the runner.

This approach to biomechanical design is known as Ideal, and was created to ‘promote a runner’s ideal alignment by attempting to shift force application points to align force vectors, and then load internal structures to enhance performance and decrease the risk for injuries’.

Brooks says: “We want to encourage the runner to choose how they want to experience their run. Float vs. feel is not an either or. It is all about how they want to run on a given day. “When runners want to be on autopilot and float above the road, they should choose from Brooks’ core range. When they want to run manually, connect to their run and feel the road they should choose PureProject.”

Brooks PureProject shoes will be available from October.
