from the aesthetic aspect: ■ hand rejuvenation — what to do and what not to do ■ Pain ■ Volumising injections ■ feet and ankle aesthetics ■ Arm embellishment. the editor's own highlight from the

conference came on the morning of the second day, with a series of lectures focusing on volumising injections and the potential facial risks. Philippe berros, one of PRIME's

editorial board members, discussed the avoidance of injury when injecting. the face itself is rather dangerous to work on, so it is imperative that the surgeon/doctor knows the facial anatomy; the main risks are generally linked to the injection product, the equipment, face and orbital anatomy, and technique. fredric brandt presented on the use of

the cannula to fill, lifting both the face and skin. indeed, symmetry is paramount for such procedures and volumising itself will depend on what the patient wants. Gary monheit emphasised this, stating that the performance of a good injection has gone from chasing wrinkles, to volumising, to knowing where to fill.

the 3‑day conference came to a close

with a spectacular gala dinner at Sporting club monaco — perhaps aptly entitled 'forever young' — where delegates, speakers and exhibitors could finally let down their hair and celebrate what had been a successful congress.

Looking to the future this is just one example of an informative and interesting session, but there were many more throughout the 3 days in monaco. the scientific directors of thecongress — Dr Pierre Andre, Drclaude Dalle, and Dr Patrick trevidic — certainly helped to put together a fascinating programme for those interested in learning about the advances in these areas of medicine, the 10th congress for which is set to be even more exciting. one cannot deny that aesthetic

medicine is becoming an even greater tour de force for specialists in this field. you only have to glance at the figures to see why events like the AmWc have become so important for the practitioner and surgeon: ■ between 1997 and 2008 aesthetic medicine procedures increased by 233%, and plastic surgery operations by 104%

■ in 2009, the top two cosmetic procedures carried out were injections of botulinum toxin (32.7%) and injections of hyaluronic acid (20.1%) ■ the top four operations in this area of medicine in 2009 were liposuction (18.8%), breast enlargement (17%), blepharoplasty (13.5%), and rhinoplasty (9.4%).

the 10th Anti‑Aging medicine World

congress 2012 is set to be just as fascinating and the PRIME team and editorial board look forward to meeting you there. the event has certainly established itself as one of the most important exhibitions and conferences for experts in the field, which aims to showcase the latest products, innovations and techniques in aesthetic and anti‑ ageing medicine. Until 2012, there are many more

exciting events to attend, details of which can be found on page 78. further information on other euromedicom events can be found online: www. euromedicom.com.
