Help for schools – and parents – in the war on bullying
D
espite confident words from Government , education departments and schools that its being addressed and beaten, bullying continues to be a major problem across the UK. Hardly a day goes by without the media making us aware of further evidence of either physical or psychological bullying somewhere in the UK – and often involving ‘modern’ technology – bullying by text , email or via a social networking site.
One effective way of addressing and reducing bullying in schools is through pupil participation activities and programmes and one of the country’s leading providers of DVD based teaching and learning resource packages - Athena Education – has devised a proven package of resources under the title ‘Don’t Bully Me’ - that will produce positive results in schools and reduce the incidence of bullying.
The package from Athena Education includes six video drama illustrations of different types of bullying along with twenty seven pages of teaching notes on disc as a pdf file, to help teachers to present the programme. There are also four lessons taking pupils from identifying to dealing with bullying along with work sheets and fact sheets to give the pupils something to take away with them after the lessons. In addition, descriptions of the methods used to defeat verbal bullies and a written analysis of each of the six video dramas is provided to ensure that the lessons are well learnt.
The programme addresses text and email bullying, racial and homophobic bullying, verbal and physical bullying and unintentional bullying. In addition to the package of resources outlined, for a limited period, purchasers of this package will also each receive five DVD copies of The Good Parents Guide to Bullying – which uses the same material as that
