Building Maintenance, Grounds & Refurbishment

High efficiency Andrews water heaters installed at RSA Academy A

Forbo flooring creates

stunning refurbishment at Loughborough University

F

orbo Flooring Systems’ in-house design service has brought to life a striking refurbishment project at Loughborough

University where a wide range of its textile and resilient products have been specified.

“The aim was to provide a stimulating and modern study area that was attractive and engaging to students,” comments Sarah Gorey, furnishing & design manager at the University, who specified the products.

Alignment of Forbo’s Tessera Alignment range is a sophisticated and cleverly textured cut and loop carpet tile designed to complement contemporary interiors. Blaze in vivid red and Sphere in electric lime were selected as the main palette on which a new mezzanine level in the James France Building exhibition area would be designed.

Intended to be used as a more relaxed study area than the formal library space on-site, lively shades of orange glow, hot lipstick pink and pistachio were specified from Forbo’s Sheerpoint tonal twist cut pile carpet tile range.

With three large main areas being refurbished, further

considerations were the durability and maintenance of the floor coverings. Nuway Tuftiguard and Coral integrated entrance systems were installed as part of the refurbishment by flooring contractor W. Blackburn of Syston, to scrape off the worst of the soil tracked in on the soles of shoes or wheeled vehicles in heavy traffic areas. The robust Nuway systems reliably tackle intense high point loads while the Coral lines effectively remove foot- borne moisture for optimum safety, as well as providing a smart entrance area.

Surestep Wood safety flooring separates work stations from seating areas, offering slip resistance coupled with excellent maintenance properties and high durability, due to the inclusion of aluminium oxide particles in the wear layer.

Eco-Liner upgrades victorian school to 21st century energy standards

E

co-Liner - the insulated plasterboard from EcoTherm - is making fast work of upgrading the energy efficiency of a Victorian school building in Essex to 21st century standards. Eco-Liner is being used to insulate and dry line existing external walls in a ‘one board’ application at Eastbury Primary School in Barking as part of a £7 million redevelopment project by May Gurney. EcoTherm’s plasterboard faced PIR insulation offers an all-in-one solution to achieving Part L compliance, and provides an interior wall surface ready for decoration - saving time and labour on site.

ndrews Water Heaters has supplied two high efficiency, condensing water heaters and buffer tanks which have been installed at the new RSA Academy in Tipton, West Midlands.

Sustainability was paramount in the building’s design in order to reduce both running costs and carbon emissions which has resulted in a BREEAM rating of Very Good.

The two SUPAflo condensing gas-fired water heaters were selected by Derry Building Services to meet the high demand for domestic hot water on site while providing significant energy efficiency benefits. They were installed in the ground floor plant room in an unvented system along with two storage vessels, providing domestic hot water which serves hand basins and sinks in cloakrooms, classrooms, laboratories and kitchens as well as showers adjacent to the sports facilities.

The SUPAflo SF64 models selected each have an output of 285 kW and a recovery rate of 4,880 litres per hour through a temperature rise of 50ºC.
