Laser World of Photonics is Europe’s leading exhibition for the laser industry, taking place from 23 to 26 May at Messe Munich, Germany. Here’s our extensive preview
Andor technology will show the new iStar Intensified CCD Camera. Andor’s iStar extracts the very best from CCD sensor and dated image intensifier technologies, achieving a superior combination of rapid acquisitions rates and ultra high sensitivity down to a single photon. The Andor stand will also show the Mechelle Spectrograph. The Mechelle has been designed to provide simultaneous recording of a wide wavelength range in one acquisition. It has no moving components and is available in a pre-aligned detector/spectrometer format. Also on display at the stand will be the Neo sCMOS camera. A true scientific CMOS in every sense, Neo has been conceptualised and specifically engineered to harness the full performance potential of this new sensor technology. Neo is unique in its ability to offer ultra- low noise, extremely fast frame rates, wide dynamic range, high resolution and a large field of view simultaneously.

Arden photonics will be showing the VF-20, an interferometric inspection system specifically designed for checking end-face quality and flatness of optical fibres. It will enable users to inspect fibres with diameters from 100µm to 1,000µm. With two modes of operation – inspect and fringe – users can check the flatness and the end quality of cleaved, polished or lensed fibre ends. The VF-20 is compact and robust. Outstanding optical image quality is delivered through

custom-designed optics. A five- Megapixel digital camera enables rapid digital zoom, giving clear images even at high magnification. The VF-20 can accommodate Arden’s own holders, as well as Vytran and Fujikura style holders. Holders for assessment of angled cleaves are also available. It comes complete with an efficient software package, which enables you to grab, save, and print images as well as new features, such as automatic cleave angle estimation and pseudo-colour mode for better contrast.

Art photonics will show a range of products, including a new generation of laser power cables. The range includes: high and super high power (HP and SHP) silica fibre cables assembled with HP-SMA and SHP-SMA connectors; metal-coated silica fibre HP and SHP cables; HP silica fibre summarisers; and HP optical cables for Er:YAG and CO2
laser
power delivery. Also available are fibre optic
probes for analytical spectroscopy and process analysis, including options in the mid-infrared, near infrared and UV/VIS/NIR. Fibre PAT systems for any spectrometers are available in a broad range of 0.18-18µm combined with CIP (clean in place) process interfaces for fully automated process control.
The fibre probes are suitable for applications in labs and industrial plants, such as: process analytical technology; reaction monitoring in real time;
polymerisation control in situ; and molecular analysis in bio, pharma and food industries.

Artifex engineering will be demonstrating its integrated laser diode characterisation system, the LIV100. This upgraded system includes an integrated USB spectrometer for exact wavelength determination during the LIV characterisation process. In addition, the current range
has been significantly extended upwards to 400A, and downwards to currents under 1A for low power diodes. The LIV100 is easy to integrate into automated production systems. The unit is very compact and performs autonomous measurement cycles, communicating via a USB interface.

Avantes will introduce the new high-performance AvaSpec NIRLine with the TEC extension, which is designed for the difficult demands of measuring long wavelengths. The line provides excellent performance for dispersive NIR-instruments with toroidal focusing mirrors and dynamic dark correction for enhanced stability. The application
areas for the new AvaSpec family are wide, including: moisture content measurement of liquids, solids and powders for inline and quality control purposes; quantitative and qualitative measurement of volatile organics such as ethanol, and methanol; plastic characterisation and material identification; and irradiance measurements, such as solar monitoring. Available premium options are: wireless communication, multi-channel housings, non-linearity calibration. Avantes’ AvaSpec NIRLine instruments are available as laboratory instruments or OEM modules. In combination with the AvaSpec Starline and the AvaSpec Sensline instruments, Avantes offers a complete range of spectrometers for all applications.
