As I’ve mentioned before, my family has a great affinity with walking at the moment.

I’m a great advocate of walking as a good form of exercise and regularly like to go for a stroll, especially when the sun’s out, to stretch my legs.

I’ve also made reference to plans to walk from one end of the country to the other, although this remains firmly a pipedream at present.

My sister on the other hand is well on the way to achieving her goal of walking 40km (roughly 25 miles) for charity. In fact, she did the walk on May 7, so depending on when you’re reading this, she’s either in the final stages of preparation, somewhere on the South Downs or resting her weary legs with a nice cup of tea.

It’s all for charity in order to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, which does great work for those affected by the disease, as well as in searching out treatments and possible cures for what, at present, is an incurable illness.

I myself was diagnosed with MS in late 2008, but I’m lucky that it was caught when I was young and I have a less virulent form than others.

She has been training hard and already had some great help from the likes of Brasher, which has generously donated a new pair of walking boots to make the experience more comfortable. But she’s looking to raise as much as she can, and is colleting online at bit.ly/sgbwalk. She and I will be grateful to any support from the outdoor industry and thank you all in advance.

I hope this doesn’t come across as an abuse of power, but what kind of brother would I be if I didn’t use my contacts and position to big her up a little and ask for help from the readers of a magazine intrinsically linked to what she’s doing to get her to her target.
