Business waste comes under spotlight at ET 2011
This year’s Environmental Technology event will examine the key waste issues affecting businesses, and showcase the latest technologies to aid environmental compliance and resource efficiency
ny business seeking a better understand- ing of the latest technological advances in carbon management, industrial and commercial waste management, green transport and manufacturing pollution con- trol should head to Birmingham next month to visit the Environmental Technology (ET) show, a three-day exhibi- tion and conference.

ET forms part of Sustainabilitylive!, which takes place at the NEC from 24–26 May. It will run alongside four other shows – the National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX), the International Water and Effluent Exhibition (IWEX), Brownfield Expo (BEX), and Sustainable Business (SB) – The Event. Sustainabilitylive! attracted just under 9,000 attendees in 2010, and numbers are expected to rise this year.
So what can visitors expect to see at ET, which celebrates
its 20th anniversary this year? A combination of growing levels of environmental legislation and the practical need to use resources more efficiently means that take-up of environmental technology across the manufacturing sector is growing rapidly. The concept of sustainability in a sector such as manufacturing, for example, is becoming an increas-
ingly central consideration for companies looking to manage waste and use fewer resources more efficiently. Businesses are focusing on being able to reuse, recycle, redeploy and dispose of materials and products in ways that benefit the bottom line while ensuring good stewardship of the environment. ET provides a showcase for the UK’s largest gathering of companies offering cutting-edge environmental solutions in industry, with exhibitors drawn from sectors ranging from air pollution control and transport carbon reduction, to

The prestigious Environment & Energy Awards recognise excellence and innovation in sustainable business practices across the envi- ronment, land, energy and sustainable business sectors, and has attracted a record number of entries for 2011.
This year, the awards will have 13 categories including two new awards: Best Energy-Efficient Refurbishment Award and Best Energy Supplier Customer Service Award. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 24 May 2011 at the National Motorcycle Museum.
