Veolia has announced plans to invest £3.5M in combined heat and power (CHP) and reduce gas fuel consumption at its Merseyside recycling and recovery plant.

Waste Recycling Group is in talks with Dow Corning for WRG to build and operate an energy-from-waste plant with combined heat and power (CHP) at the company’s Cardiff Road site in Barry.

Corning’s reliance on fossil fuels and help to secure a reli- able source of energy for the company’s silicone-based mate- rials manufacturing facility. The proposed plant would treat residual household and non-hazardous commercial wastes.

Xergi AD build under way
Danish firm Xergi is building a large AD plant in Scotland in conjunction with Scottish & Southern Energy. The plant at Barkip, North Ayrshire, is expected to be operation- al for energy production in early May. With a process capability of 80,000tpa of organic waste, the facility will produce 2.5MW of renewable electricity annually. The plant will include an automatic feeding system, anaerobic digesters and CHP units.
