The other long-awaited item of business before the council was the status of the Uniform Committee. Chairman Kathy Schreiber updated members on the struggles they have faced in talking to new uniform companies. “It’s been very diffi cult,” Schreiber acknowledged. The Ladies Auxiliary VFW had certain requirements: broad range of sizes, reasonable prices and no restricting contract. They quickly found out that the marine blue of the current uniform is a custom color and would be priced as such. Nearly everything presented to the committee was too expensive, (close to or more than the cost of the current uniform). “We’re not prepared to make a
recommendation at this time,” Schreiber said. “But we would like you to consider this option.” The committee members then modeled an option that would fi t all the criteria of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW: Each committee member wore her own black suit in her preferred style (and price range), pants or skirt, with different styles of shirts, from white to red to royal blue. Some wore scarves, but all had
on a sample of the possible new Ladies Auxiliary VFW uniform pin. “The shirt or scarf could be at the
discretion of the National President, Department President or Auxiliary President,” Schreiber explained. “Members would be free to fi nd a black suit in their price and size range, and the national organization would not be locked in to any contracts.”
The Uniform Committee will have
their fi nal recommendation for vote at the 2011 National Convention in San Antonio. (Register online or see Page 21.) Departments are encouraged to write resolutions and submit them to National Headquarters.
The Unity & Love Banquet was a time of celebration for all the members. California member Julia Price provided music and entertained members with her powerful voice. After dinner, President Barnes made
three presentations. During her visit to Delaware,
President Barnes was pleasantly surprised to learn about the World
