War II Watch Towers. (See story in the March 2011 issue.) She asked Delaware Department President Roberta Walter to accept a donation of $1,000 to take back to the preservation group that has been working to restore and maintain the towers as part of our country’s history. In Wyoming is a little-known gem,
according to President Barnes. The Wyoming Veterans’ Museum is housed in a building once used during World War II. Soldiers stationed there at that time painted incredible murals. President Barnes especially liked how the items of Wyoming soldiers were arranged. Each display case houses artifacts and the story of one soldier,

For the second major cancer research donation of the year, President Barnes invited two representatives from the University of California at San Diego Moores Cancer Center to accept a donation of $50,000 for breast cancer research. Dr. Barbara Parker and Dr. Ann Wallace each spoke on the center’s commitment to patient care and also of the important research being done. Dr. Wallace’s recent research led to a new imaging agent that is now being used nationwide in detecting breast cancer. Keynote speaker VFW Commander- in-Chief Richard Eubank took the opportunity to remind members about the many opportunities to serve veterans, active-duty military and their families. “I know you do so much. It’s amazing what you accomplish every year. But there is more to do. Our voices do make a difference,” he said, citing a legislative victory that was a direct result of members contacting their legislators. “We have to keep doing what we’re doing. Our men and women in uniform deserve our best.” n
