Athletes
have time to set up on the wave, but a time limit is enforced to prevent them from wasting time. This quick and snappy process keeps the event fresh for specta- tors and eliminates the current awkward, and boring, pauses between classes while the judges tally up variety and technical scores. Best of all, women don’t need to spin to win. Women get to show off their biggest tricks, erasing the image of con- servative female rides and decreasing the perceived gender gap of pro freestyle paddling.
