Lt. Col. Chappuis was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by General George Patton for his role in the defense of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. He was also knighted by the queen of Holland for his participation in liberating the town of Eindhoven, Holland, receiving the Military Willems Order. To this day, the Dutch refer to him as “The Great Liberator.”
BG Steve Chappuis and his wife Kay moved to Patriots Landing in 2005. With the passing of Steve in 2008, Kay remained here. “Steve didn’t want me to be alone and he enjoyed Patriots Landing so immensely that he wanted me to continue to live here. It is so convenient to be near Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Madigan Army Medical Center.”
