Members of Parliament, the Eye Health Alliance and the College held a listening event, highlighting the eye health needs of people with learning disabilities

75 members attended a free regional CET/CPD evening in Leeds, hearing the latest on vision and dyslexia and therapeutics

Over 200 diplomats celebrated their entry into the profession and membership of the College at the Diploma Presentation Ceremony at Central Hall Westminster

The Ceremony marked the achievements of the first set of optometrists to qualify as independent prescribers

We announced plans for our Optometric Workforce Survey. The survey will gather detailed information about patterns of practice, training and experience and career paths, providing valuable insight into the profession

We published an updated Framework for Optometric Referrals, now available online


The British Optical Association Museum at the College was officially ‘Accredited’ by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA)

Dr Cindy Tromans took over as President of the College of Optometrists. Dr Kamlesh Chauhan was elected as Vice President


Over 260 delegates attended Optometry Tomorrow 2010 held in York, featuring the second College Research Symposium running alongside the conference, including over 20 abstracts and oral presentations


Over 75 members attended a CET/CPD evening in London, hearing about paediatric optometry and working with patients with learning disabilities

The Benevolent Fund launched a new website, aiming to make its services more accessible to potential beneficiaries


The College Museum appeared in the BBC1 programme ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is’ featuring an antique collector looking at vintage sunglasses from our collection

The College supported National Eye Health Week, funding research to raise the profile of eye health in the consumer media and working with the RNIB to organise a Parliamentary event to raise awareness of the importance of regular sight tests


The new College website was launched offering easier access to Guidance and a new knowledge centre

The College managed the European Academy of Optometry and Optics’ 2010 research and academic conference in Copenhagen


l Phase two of the UK Eyecare Services Survey began
