offering value to members

We carried out a survey of our members, helping us to understand how we can improve and develop what we offer. The results of this were considered by Council at their Strategic Planning Away Day in November and will be used to inform the 2011-2014 strategic plan.

We continue to provide relevant and up-to-date information to College members. Our new topic- based e-updates on primary care, binocular vision, low vision and eye diseases, help members to keep up-to-date with the latest research, news and resources in their area of interest and have been very well received. We published six editions of Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics, with a new Editor-in-Chief, and an ambitious new development plan, and re-launched and published four editions of a new look Optometry in Practice (now the College’s continuing professional development journal). Our quarterly In Focus members’ newsletters continue to offer a comprehensive overview of our work and of key developments from the sector. Our Library handled over 1,000 requests for

Library or information services and we created a new member working area within the College Library that offers access to PCs and Wi-Fi. We have re-launched an online Library catalogue with a host of new features. The programme of regional member events

continues to develop. We held four events across the UK, reaching over 400 members, with great feedback. The events, which offer an opportunity to network, meet College Council, staff and colleagues and access high quality learning and development opportunities, are now being rolled out around the country and will reach every region by September 2011. We launched a new, vibrant College website with a better search facility, easier access to guidance and clinical advice and direct links to member- only resources. Social and business networks have provided us with a new channel to communicate with our members, students and other stakeholders. Members can keep up-to-date with the latest developments by visiting our Twitter and Facebook pages. Our new blogs offer College spokespeople the opportunity for a more informal and personal commentary on a range of issues which affect our members.
