The Standing Committees of the Board have a key role in developing College policy. They are made up of a cross section of elected Council members, and other stakeholders, who meet on a regular basis.
Research Committee Responsible for monitoring the implementation of the College’s research strategy, determining the research priorities for the profession, making recommendations for dispersal of the College’s Research Fund within the terms of the Trust Deed, considering how best to maintain the value of the endowment and making recommendations for additional funding by the College of research projects, outside of the Research Fund.

Pay and Awards Committee Responsible for determining the remuneration packages of the Chief Executive and Directors, and agreeing any annual pay increase for other staff.
Audit Committee Responsible for ensuring financial controls are in place and that the College operates within a sound financial framework. The Committee ensures the Board of Trustees is
properly advised on investment matters, and ensures grants and other funds received are appropriately disbursed. The Committee also ensures financial risks are identified and gives recommendations to the Board on the appointment of auditors.
Remuneration Committee Responsible for determining reasonable and proper remuneration to officers of the College, by way of reimbursement of locum fees.
Disciplinary Committee This Committee hears cases of College members who have had sanctions applied by the General Optical Council’s Fitness to Practise Committee. The College does not permit any person who may not offer the best possible clinical care to remain in membership.
