hy have awards? The first UK Leasing World Awards, held in London back in 2009, had a simple aim, to give recognition to those in our industry who had show exceptional commitment and fortitude at a time when banks were crashing, and leasing companies were being sold off in the marketplace. That Awards ceremony ran back- to-back with the first Leasing World EXPO, and together the two events made for a significant date in the leasing and asset finance calendar.

The 2011 UK Leasing World Awards Dinner, on Wednesday 21st September at One Whitehall, London will continue in the same spirit, and will seek out excellence and superb performance in the UK leasing and asset finance industry, across general and specific market segments. Back-to-back again with Leasing World EXPO 2011 the next day, Thursday September 22nd, conveniently at the same venue, the two events together will be a real celebration of the best of British leasing, and the essential service companies and personalities that support it. The Leasing World EXPO 2011 will once more feature a programme of seminars presented by the Finance and Leasing Association, Broker and specialist sessions, and more, against a backdrop of exhibitors’ stands and literally hundreds of visitors, eager to network and exchange information. To be held at the same venue as the very successful 2010 EXPO, 2011’s EXPO will start earlier, by popular suggestion, at 11 a.m., giving those who have attended the Awards Dinner the night before the opportunity to stay over and enjoy an EXPO, if they haven’t done so before.

The hunt for Category nominees will be on. A panel of acknowledged experts has been appointed to finalise the criteria for each category, to have candidate lists drawn up, information gathering carried out, and analysis applied. The resulting shortlists will be communicated to those selected, and the results will be announced at the Awards Dinner. The evening will start with drinks at 6.30 pm , moving on to dinner at 7.45 pm. Throughout, the evening, slides and videos of supporting sponsors will be featured on the three rolling displays in the dining hall. There will be a raffle organised by the

doughty John Brown, all for a good charitable cause, with some tasty prizes, not least of which will be a Champagne High Tea for two at the Royal Horseguards Hotel, a treat for that special someone? Awards will commence at 9.30 pm, when Lord Mitchell will ascend the podium and commence the awards ceremony proper. Each category will be introduced by a short video of leaders from the shortlisted companies, and the winner will then be announced. After collecting their tall, Oscar-like gold award, winners will make a short speech before having an official photograph taken. At the end of the awards, Lord Mitchell will make a concluding speech, congratulating the winners, thanking the participants, and bringing the Dinner to a close. At this point, it is customary for winners to go off and celebrate their victories, and runners-up to share a conciliatory wee dram as they plot their tactics for 2012! ■
