ACTIVEION WINS IRELAND’S GREEN HOSPITALITY AWARD FOR INNOVATION

Activeion’s win recognises the extraordinary success of the company’s chemical-free Activeion ionator EXP™ cleaning tool, launched in Europe early in 2010 and now used in hotels, restaurants, care homes and retail outlets throughout Europe. The Green Hospitality Award was announced at Green Hospitality’s 4th National Hospitality Environment Conference and Exhibition, held on Tuesday November 16th at Ireland’s new Convention Centre in Dublin, the world’s first convention centre built to be carbon neutral. The theme of the conference “Leveraging the Green in Irish Tourism”, not only reflects the importance of environmentalism in Ireland, but also the
hospitality sector’s commitment to green principles, responsible purchasing and marketing the green message. Delegates from top Irish tourism and hospitality companies attended the Conference to learn, discuss and collaborate towards major environmental footprint reduction. NEW MASONRY HANGER HELPS MEET CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES

ndustry leader Simpson Strong Tie has designed an innovative new masonry hanger to assist in meeting the air leakage requirements, as part of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The SFLHI (Safety Fast Lite Hanger for I-Joists) is a unique single piece hanger designed to support timber joists from masonry walls without the need for masonry above the course of blockwork supporting the hanger. This means that the potential for air leakage is reduced and avoids the time consuming and costly mortaring and sealing with mastic around built-in joist ends is avoided.
As well as being CE approved and meeting the requirements EN 845-1, an added benefit is the system also safely allows construction work to continue just three days after the supporting blockwork has been laid – as opposed to 28 days in the case of traditional masonry hangers. Simpson Strong-Tie’s Head of Engineered Timber Division, Jon Head,
