Presented by: ACOs and Medical Liability

Consolidation and evolving contractual relationships alter the risk profile and insurance buying habits of healthcare providers.

I would imagine it’s going to change the way people view their risk significantly.

Diane Pinakiewicz, National Patient Safety Foundation

The risk profile of a physician practicing independently is very different than for a physician who is part of an integrated healthcare organization, and coverage requirements will be different, too.

In preparation for becoming an ACO, hospitals are hiring physicians as employees and physician groups are acquiring one another. This consolidation is changing buying patterns for medical liability coverage.

Looking ahead, healthcare clients and their insurance providers must be attuned to coverage issues that relate to changing contractual relationships among healthcare providers working together in integrated organizations.
