Insurance buying patterns will change as healthcare organizations restructure, whether through mergers and acquisitions; the establishment of contractual partnerships; or the hiring of previously independent physicians as employees.
As these parties come together, they can create a host of new contractual exposures. Until the government issues more guidance on the structure and requirements of ACOs, carriers will struggle to understand these exposures and help their clients manage them effectively.
