LANDMARK YEAR FOR ROUTES ASIA HOST
Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, is recognised as one of the world’s leading gateways for customer service and is this year celebrating a decade of success during its 10th anniversary in March – the same month it hosts Routes Asia.
Incheon is strategically located in
the world’s fastest emerging regional economy, with two billion people, or 32% of the world’s population, living within three and a half hour’s fl ying time from the airport – undoubtedly a signifi cant market for any airline interested in developing air services within the Asia-Pacifi c region. The airport continues to grow, handling 33 million passengers, 2.7 million tonnes of cargo and 5.2 million transfer passengers in 2010.
Now, Incheon is determined to strengthen its competitiveness as North East Asian hub through its ‘Global IIAC 2015’ vision.
These plans, along with Korean Air’s introduction of its fi rst A380s this year, means that 2011 is shaping up to be one of the most signifi cant in the history of the airport. Korean will initially operate its fi rst A380 to Tokyo Narita and Hong Kong, later introducing its other super jumbos on key European and North American routes, which strengthens Incheon’s offering as a connecting world hub even further.
