JETSTAR HEADS TO HANGZHOU Jetstar will launch direct fl ights from Singapore to Hangzhou in March, making it the fi rst carrier to offer a non-stop service on the route. The airline will initially operate an A320 aircraft on the route three times a week, increasing to four times weekly by the end of March.

Jetstar currently serves the Chinese cities of Haikou, Shantou, Guilin, Hong Kong, Taipei and Macau from Singapore. According to the Hangzhou Tourism Board, more than 500,000 Singaporeans and more than 300,000 Australians visited Hangzhou last year.

“Our planned Singapore–Hangzhou services form part of this strategy to further grow our low-fare services to China. This route will be particularly attractive to travellers from Zhejiang Province planning their travel to Singapore and then beyond to Jetstar’s Asia-Pacifi c network of over 50 destinations. We will be focusing on marketing Singapore both as a hub and as a destination,” said Bruce Buchanan, Jetstar Group CEO. He added that Jetstar’s new long-haul A330 service from Melbourne to Singapore, along with its planned Singapore– Auckland fl ight from March, would offer passengers from Hangzhou with even more connecting options within the region.

‘NEW’ AIR JAMAICA REVEALS NETWORK Air Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines will operate as two separate brands across two separate route networks, said the chairman of Caribbean Airlines, George Michael Nicholas III, in January.

Air Jamaica will fl y from Montego Bay and Kingston, Jamaica to:

New York (JFK), Philadelphia, Toronto, Ft Lauderdale and Miami and Nassau in the Bahamas. The airline’s new fl eet of B737-800 aircraft will be operational by April. Air Jamaica added in a statement that the route network could be extended to London later in 2011.

Turkey’s Sky Airlines has launched domestic fl ights from İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen and is now operating to Antalya, İzmir, Trabzon, Van, Diyarbakır and Ankara.

Port-Au-Prince in Haiti is getting three times weekly fl ights from Newark with Continental Airlines from early June. Operated with a B737-800, the service will increase to daily in July.

Korean Air will start operating the A380 between Seoul and Tokyo Narita and Hong

Kong in June. The airline will be taking delivery of fi ve A380s in 2011 and a further fi ve in 2015.

Indonesian airline Mandala ceased operations in January and had 45 days from January 14 to fi nd new investors. The airline’s president director, Diono Nurjadin, said he believed the LCC remained an “attractive proposition”. Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia has moved ahead with its IPO.
