Hand & Torque Tools Hand and Torque tools

Craftsmanship is an important word to those who use and value tools. With the advent of power tools many of the jobs we need to do can be done more quickly and efficiently. However this is often accompanied by noise, dust and sometimes danger. There is nothing quite like the intimacy and pleasure of working with hand tools and using them allows a flexibility that one can rarely feel with machines. Hand tools can often add those special finishing touches to the craftsman’s work.

At one time all tools were powered by the hand alone. Over thousands of years those who depended on these tools constantly refined them to become more efficient and accurate until in modern times we have an amazing variety of tools evolved for a wide range of tasks. Manufacturers continue to refine and innovate – you can see some of the latest products on the following pages of this magazine.

ITL – A New Focus Insulated Tools LLC have long been synonymous with high quality live wire protection tools and their philosophy for manufacturing quality is set to continue since their acquisition by ITL Holdings Ltd, a company owned by Mark Wardle and Allan Challinor, in November 2010. Traditionally ITL have sold directly to the utilities market, being specified for a number of major projects for their undefeatable protection during live wire working. The new owners plan to continue this whilst also venturing to sell the tools as stock items. Mark Wardle said: “We are keen to put across the message to wholesalers and merchants that Insulated Tools aren’t just great for the utilities market, but they can and should be sold to everyone; every electrician needs them in their tool box.”

All of the insulated tools offered by ITL are manufactured using a unique method of injection moulding with Nylon 11 to create the ultimate in live wire protection. Far superior to the dipped PVC tools, injection moulding at high temperatures fuses the tools and insulation together to give an unbreakable bond, making the combined tools safe and long-lasting; tough enough to survive even the most extreme usage requirements. The products are also flame retardant, and designed for use even in extreme temperatures (-40°F to +158°F), plus the individual tools are 100% batch tested (10,000V for 3minutes), giving the user 100% assured safety.

New 1/4” Techangle Torque Wrench From Snap-on Designed To Cover

The Lowest Of Torques Snap-on Tools, brand leader in tools, tool storage and diagnostic equipment for the automotive industry, has announced the introduction of its new 1/4” TechAngle torque and angle wrench designed to help the user save time while at the same time increasing accuracy and quality. Many manufacturers now specify low end torques on even the most ancillary parts of the vehicle - torques as low as 3Nm. The new TechAngle covers a range from 2.7Nm up to 27.1Nm. This means that it will cover the lowest of torques, such as camshaft carrier bolts on Mercedes and Honda models - 8 and 7.2Nm - many plastic fasteners on bumpers, grills and headlights - 6Nm - and sensitive equipment such as airbags. Certain brake calipers such as motorcycles require 4Nm and carbon handlebars on motorcycles require 3Nm. For this type of low end work you need precision and Snap-on claims that the new TechAngle is more accurate than traditional mechanical torque wrenches - from +/- 2%. The TechAngle is easy to use. Set the required torque - and angle where appropriate - and when you reach the pre-set measurement the wrench will beep and buzz. This confirms that the user has put the proper torque and angle on the fastener because the ‘peak’ function confirms actual torque and wrench. “Our new 1/4” TechAngle removes all guesswork and the risk that the technician may have got it wrong, particularly on the low torque applications,” says Aldo Rodi, UK Managing Director of Snap-on Tools. “Following on from the great sales of our 3/8” and 1/4” TechAngle models, the 1/4” is a welcome addition to the family, giving our customers the best, most accurate, 1/4” drive torque wrench on the market. This unique ability to save the technician time and confirm accuracy and quality will, we believe, make our new 1/4” TechAngle enormously attractive to the UK automotive trade.”
