Easier Than Ever To Enter The Hire Awards Of Excellence 2011 The leading trade association for the hire and rental industry, HAE (Hire Association Europe) are encouraging their members to enter next year’s industry awards.


The Hire Awards of Excellence 2011, organised and hosted HAE and sister association EHA (Event Hire Association), are taking place on May 7, 2011 at the prestigious The Grosvenor House Hotel.


Members of the association can now enter the awards which reward hire companies for outstanding achievements and commitment to high levels of service across the industry.


The categories for the 2011 awards are: • HAE TOOL, EQUIPMENT AND PLANT HIRE COMPANY OF THE YEAR (UP TO FIVE OUTLETS) • HAE TOOL, EQUIPMENT AND PLANT HIRE COMPANY OF THE YEAR (OVER FIVE OUTLETS) • EHA EVENT HIRE COMPANY OF THE YEAR (SINGLE OUTLET) • EHA EVENT HIRE COMPANY OF THE YEAR (MULTIPLE OUTLETS) • SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR • CATALOGUE OF THE YEAR • WEBSITE OF THE YEAR • BEST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR • EXCELLENCE IN TRAINING • EXCELLENCE IN HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT • HIRE ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR (only open to candidates of apprenticeship and NVQ programmes)


Graham Arundell, managing director of HAE, said: “Last year we had our best year yet in terms of the levels of entries, and there was some really stiff competition too with many members demonstrating that they were worthy winners. “We are hoping to get even more members entering for the 2011 awards. It couldn’t be easier to enter, members just need to download the entry pack from the awards website, fill it in and send back to us along with a small amount of relevant, supporting evidence.


Remote Control Dumper Set To Prevent Accidents On


Construction Sites The UK’s first ever production remote control, mini hi-tip dumper, called the Shannon Solo has been developed by two British Entrepreneurs - Stuart Selway and Ryan Symes. The Shannon Solo was invented to address the number of health and safety risks that are found in work places where plant hire equipment, like dumper trucks are used. Stuart Selway, Director at Shannon Plant South West believes the Shannon Solo can reduce the risk to operators, because it can be controlled remotely up to distance of 100m. He says: “The Shannon Solo can be used in quarries or demolition sites where there is


a threat of falling debris, near deep water where people would normally be at risk, or in other dangerous areas like airports, power stations and railway sites.” Other hazards that can be reduced are confined spaces, narrow access, busy highways, contaminated land like asbestos and unstable ground. The Shannon Solo will be launched and available from the Executive Hire Show 9 and 10 February 2011, Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on stand C35.
