Your final guide to positive job seeking We hope the career advice information you’ve read has been helpful in preparing for and carrying out your job search. Use this final checklist to help along the way!

#1 Visit your uni careers service It can help you with useful career advice and resources,


job applications and finding a position that fits you.


#2 Do your research Do some background research on the employer and the


industry you’re considering for employment. It will give you an edge when you apply.


#3 Network Talk to friends, family and even industry-related


professional associations. You never know who might be able to give you a foot in the door.


#4 Have your application reviewed A second set of eyes is invaluable! Have your résumé


and cover letter checked by your careers service, or by a contact in the industry. They can tell you if it’s appropriate for the position you want.


#5 Prepare for your interview Check directions and transport beforehand.


Re-read your résumé so the details are fresh in your mind.


Organise answers to some practice interview questions.


Know the type of interview – panel, phone, one-on- one, etc. Dress the part. Be confident in talking about yourself and your skills.


#6 Market yourself properly First impressions count, so be professional at all times!


Make sure you: have a professional email address


use a polite phone manner when speaking with potential employers


set up voicemail on your phone. #7 Prepare enough to relax, smile & have fun! SO YOU gOT THE JOB! Finishing full-time study and settling into a professional job can be both exciting


and scary. You can expect your first few weeks to be both exhausting and exhilarating. As well as learning the tasks in your new role, you also need to take the time to get to know the culture, management, clients and colleagues.


Everyone’s experience will be different, but take advantage of the chance to learn as much as possible – there’s a world of opportunity awaiting you in your new role!
