Trends: Integrated domestic hot water/heating boilers. These units are typically wall mounted and offer condensing efficiency in the 90% plus range. As far as integrated systems, combining solar and geothermal ECR is not involved in those market segments. Company News: Delivering one of the industry’s highest
efficiencies with a 97 percent annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE), the ECR™ 97gb condensing hot water boiler (pictured) provides the flexibility that HVAC professionals need for easy installation with the efficiency homeowners want. The 97gb, manufactured by ECR International, is an affordable energy solution that can help homeowners lower their utility bills. Water Heating Market Outlook: From 2009 to Nov. 2010,

the gas condensing market (boilers with inputs of 300,000 BTUH and less) increased in total shipments approximately 18%. Expect to see growth in the range of 15% to 20% for 2011. The sales of higher efficiency condensing boilers have by incentivized by government efficiency programs and utility company consumer rebates. We are expecting these programs to continue into 2011. The total cast iron boiler market experienced a decline of
around 3.5% during the same time period. This included oil and gas fired boilers for both water and steam applications. Expect to see the market to trend back up during the 2011 year.

Company News: Low NOx condensing, modulating boilers: the future of high efficiency heating is here. Low NOx, gas-fired condensing heating appliances, like the Baxi Luna modulating, condensing wall-hung boiler, are here to stay. Preferred by green builders and discerning buyers looking for energy efficiency and environmentally friendly HVAC solutions, gas-/propane-fired high tech appliances are heating up the hydronics world, and are experiencing exponential growth throughout North America. The fully modulating Baxi Luna HT range is CSA, ASME (H-Stamp) and ENERGY STAR certified, achieving up to 98% energy efficiency. Founded in 1867, Baxi is Europe’s second largest manufacturer of heating products.

Company News: The Lynx boiler is now available in three popular sizes — 90,120, and 150 Btu condensing gas boilers with silicon alloy heat exchangers for maximum heat transfer and rust resistance. The Combi Cat is a domestic hot water generator that can make up to 4 gpm of hot water at 55 degree rise with 120 BTU boiler — perfect for use with the Lynx or Bobcat slant/Fin boilers.
continuing to increase its investment in training in 2011. The company will offer an array of new courses from basic hydronic piping to detailed design and installation of its new Challenger and Cascade boilers. Contractors can check the training schedule and register for training online. Water Heating Market Outlook:
Lynx boiler
Challenger Combination boiler combines a high efficiency modulating, condensing boiler with on-demand domestic hot water production in a single compact unit, perfect for small to medium residences.
The expectation is for continued growth of the high efficiency segment of the hydronic market. We expect a continued rise in oil prices that will provide an incentive to switch from oil to natural gas. Expect the impact of the expiration of the federal incentives to have a minimal impact on the high efficiency market.

Weil-McLain

Company News: The Weil-McLain Ultra Commercial Boiler 550/750 (pictured) is able to deliver up to 93.9% thermal efficiency, and 94% combustion efficiency thanks in part to its 20% to 100% modulation. The Ultra Commercial is lightweight, requiring minimal clearance, and is low NOx certified and CSD-1 compliant. The Ultra Commercial features PVC venting for direct vent or direct exhaust. Available with 550 Mbh and 750 Mbh inputs.
Heating announced a new, more energy- efficient damper design on select residential gas-fired models, enabling them to achieve an Energy Factor (EF) from 0.67 to 0.69, depending on the model. As a result, these water heaters meet the minimum 0.67 EF requirement of ENERGY STAR® Phase II, which went into effect on September 1. The technology, consisting of a 24-volt powered flue damper positioned atop the unit, opens and closes automatically in response to burner activity. When the gas control shuts off the fuel, it also signals the damper to close, trapping whatever heat remains inside the flue and reducing standby heat loss.
