All the latest news www.eca.co.uk ECA shop open for business

THE ECA’S NEW ONLINE SHOP is now open and ready for your business, bringing ECA registered members great deals on a variety of products and services that can make life easier for the electrical contractor. ECA-registered members can access the shop by logging in to the Members Area of the ECA website at www.eca.co.uk To help members grow their businesses, the ECA online shop features a full range of technical certificates, ECA guides, publications and a selection of merchandise, all at discount prices. The ECA is also a formal distributor of BSI and IET publications, also available at discount prices to members. While a range of key products and publications is already available, the ECA online shop is aiming to expand this over the coming months by building up a portfolio of quality niche products that are useful to members’ businesses but which they may have difficulty in sourcing themselves.

The ECA online shop is tightly focused on the needs of the electrical contractor, and products will include specialist tools, software, work-wear, health and safety products, isolation and lock- off equipment, and instruments for test and fault-finding.

The online shop will be steadily

rolling-out new ranges of products and services, and flagging up special offers to members. But if there are

any particular types of discount products or services that you’d like to see introduced that are relevant to your business, the ECA online shop team is keen to hear from you. By utilising the buying power of an organisation the size of the ECA, the ECA has the potential to secure market-leading prices on a whole range of goods and services. So drop the shop a line at shopteam@eca. co.uk with your comments.

Wearing the

badge with pride We’re pleased to see so many ECA-registered members now ‘wearing their badge with pride’ – displaying the ECA badge on their vans and other vehicles (see Editorial, page 3). These members were spotted displaying their ECA Badge in the Central South Region recently. A prize is now on its way to both companies.

PIRform ideal for quality certification

NOW AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY FROM THE ECA online shop, PIRform is an innovative and easy-to-use certification and reports software package that brings built-in intelligence to the task of completing certification and reports based on 17th Edition BS7671. Designed with the input of electricians, the 17th Edition inspection and testing software is easy and intuitive to use, enabling contractors to produce high quality Electrical Installation, Minor Works and Periodic Inspection Reports. Using its built-in intelligence, the PIRform

software automatically consults the latest regulations as certain boxes are ticked or values input during various tests, and flags up onscreen relevant regulations that may be contravened, as well as appropriate comments. These are then inserted automatically into the certificate. The software also does calculations and comparative calculations based on test results and values the contractor has input, working out figures and recognising any issues with regulations almost instantly as the form is being filled. It provides a constant automatic reminder of the regulations for the user while making inspections and form-filling. The software, which is updated when regulations change, provides users with an invaluable tool for compiling reports, cutting down on time and providing a more professional look to the finished printout. The software enables users to create personalised certificates, customise the form to include company logos, as well as include ECA or ELECSA branding, giving a slicker result when delivering reports to clients. Generic certificates can also be created.

The unique PIRform software package is exclusively available for ECA- and ELECSA- registered members for 18 months, and will cost just £69, including all updates for a year. ‘We believe this will pay a contractor back on the first periodic assessment he does,’ commented Steve Mitchell, managing and operations director, ECA Affinity Services. With the Periodic Inspection Report changing to an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), members who purchase the software will receive an automatic free update when the regulations change. In addition, PIRform software users will have the facility to archive all reports they have completed in a secure online storage facility, safeguarding users from losing reports if a PC is lost, stolen or files damaged. The PIRform software is available as either an online download or as a version on CD, with regulation updates issued when they become available. It will be sold through the ECA and ELECSA online shops (see the Members’ Area at www.eca.co.uk) or by calling the ECA on 0845 873 8799.
