ing the mayor’s race. The once maverick Vaughan, now deeply entrenched in left-wing circles, is seen by many as the ascendant opposition leader to the Ford mayoralty. He played a minor role in this election, but next election might see him fortified by a renewed left-wing base. He was wise to not run his time. Instead he, or whoever on the left is considering a 2014 mayoral bid, is hoping Ford will be so destructive during the next four years that the climate will be ripe for a left-wing saviour.
