Beautiful Rubbings
Different types of trees have different types of bark. On your next hike bring along a few pieces of paper and crayons and create artwork using the different textures of trees.
MATERIALS: >> Paper >> Crayons >> Trees >> Leaves
INSTRUCTIONS:
Put a piece of paper on a tree trunk and keep it still. Peel the paper from the crayon and rub the paper using the side of the crayon. Experiment using different types of trees and pressing lightly or firmly with the crayon. You can also do leaf rub- bings. Write the names of the type of trees and leaves on the back of the pieces of paper. When you get back to camp mix up everyone’s rubbings and see if you can match the leaf rubbings to their cor- rect bark rubbings.
Tree rubbings also make great cards. Fold the paper in half, write a mes- sage and enclose a pic- ture of your camping trip to send to grandma and grandpa!
