CARE INTERNATIONAL
CARE International Challenge fashion sector L
eading overseas development agency CARE International is launching the sixth Prima Solutions Adventure Challenge supported by Footwear Today, exclusively for the fashion and Footwear industry. This challenge, taking place in Cannock Chase Country Park in
Staffordshire on 21st May 2011, will see teams from across the industry hiking, biking and canoeing the distance of a marathon. The event offers participants an unusual, fun way of testing themselves
personally as well as providing an imaginative brand of team building amongst colleagues. Last year's event took place in Exmoor, raising £60,000 to support
CARE's poverty-fighting work - a record for this event. CARE hopes to top this figure in 2011. CARE Challenge Manager Neil Munro said: "This year's event will include
biking forest trails, canoeing on a river and a spectacular hiking route - with a few mystery challenges thrown in. Team members have the opportunity to train, fundraise and complete the challenge together, and there's a huge sense of achievement on completion- not least because the funds raised will support CARE's essential work overseas."
The cause CARE works in more than 70 countries helping 59 million of the world's
poorest people find a route out of poverty. CARE's work includes microfinance projects helping garment workers, shoemakers and tailors to start or expand their small businesses, allowing them to feed their family and send their children to school. CARE runs projects teaching women to print fabrics with environmentally friendly vegetable dye and helps them sell their products to the international market, securing a good price for their work. CARE also educates garment workers about their rights, making them less susceptible to exploitation. These are a few examples of the kinds of projects that could benefit from teams' fundraising, so every bead of sweat is worthwhile. The event is sponsored by Prima Solutions, one of the UK’s leading
suppliers of complete multi-channel IT solutions to the clothing, footwear and accessories markets. Neil is confident this year's event will be the best yet. "This challenge has
raised over £282,000 over the past five years, which is just fantastic. This money has had a significant impact on CARE's work. We urge teams to get signed up and help us do even better in 2011." CARE's Challenge Team offer participants expert advice on every aspect
of the challenge from sign up, training and fundraising to the final challenge of the day - summoning the energy for the post-event awards and party where teams can celebrate a great achievement.
