Stephen Ott Assistant Coach First Season
Stephen Ott begins the first season of his second stint at Siena, this time as an assistant coach. Ott served as director of basketball operations at the College under McCaffery from 2006-08.
“I’m thrilled to have Steve on my staff and confident he will
help us guide the Siena program to new heights,” Head Coach Mitch Buonaguro said. “Having worked alongside him, I know he is very driven and committed to developing young men of great character. He is a talented coach with a great passion for Siena and a true understanding of what we are trying to accomplish.”
As the director of basketball operations, Ott assisted in all aspects of the program, playing a vital part in the oversight of the team’s film exchange during the season. Siena won the MAAC Championship and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in his second season with the program.
Ott spent the last two years working as the director of Team Events at the Hoop Group. In that capacity, he organized
many events run annually by the Hoop Group, including: The Philly Hoop Group Classic (which Siena participated in this past season), three national High School Showcases (providing the premier stages for top high school talent in the nation) and the Hoop Group Jam Fests (various AAU showcase for rising scholastic stars).
A 2005 graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz, Ott was a four-year varsity starter and two-time team captain. He was twice selected team MVP during his playing days and to the All-Tournament Team in the SUNYAC Tournament in 2003.
Ott’s coaching tenure began in 2005-06 when he was an assistantmen’s basketball coach at Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, N.Y.
At Ulster, Ott was responsible for a variety of tasks including scouting, game and practice preparation and recruiting. He also coordinated off-season weight training and super- vised individual workouts and study hall. Ulster improved its win total by eight games during the 2005-06 season, placing third in the inaugural Mid-Hudson Athletic Con- ference Tournament.
In his new job at Siena, Ott will be asked to assist in all aspects of the program, including: recruiting, scouting, practice preparation, film review and talent evaluation. He will play a key role in the skill, academic and professional development of the student athletes in the program.
DavidMatturro Director of Basketball Operations Third Season
David Matturro begins his third season at Siena College as the Director of Basketball Operations. Matturro assists the coaching staff in all aspects of the program, playing a vital role in the oversight of the team's film exchange during the season.
Matturro served as the junior varsity head coach and assistant varsity coach at the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland for two years from 2006-2008. Also, he coached the eighth-grade teamduring the 2006-2007 season at Boys’ Latin. Previously, he worked at Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, N.Y. as the head coach of the boys’ freshman team during the 2005-2006 season. He has also gained additional experi- ence working for the Hoop Group at various events over the past few summers.
Matturro graduated from St. John Fisher College in May of 2006 with a degree in mathematics.
