It’s then your choice of sightseeing – a tour of the Habsburgs’ Schönbrunn Palace, an architectural masterpiece and Austrian cultural treasure, or the amazing Imperial Silver Room at the Hofburg, Austria’s official presidential residence. Nothing quite compares to the royal treatment, and pageantry, you’ll experience tonight at our private Imperial Evening in a historic Viennese palace. 6.  VIENNA / CRUISE TO DÜRNSTEIN For centuries, Vienna was the capital of the Habsburgs’ Austro- Hungarian Empire. The morning is yours to discover some of the city’s opulent palaces, theatres and other cultural institutions – including over 100 museums – on your own before returning to the riverboat to resume your Danube River trip. Cruise this afternoon along picturesque landscapes en route to Dürnstein in Austria’s wine country for a late night arrival. High on a hilltop above the town lie the ruins of Kuenringerburg Castle, a place of history and legend; England’s King Richard the Lionhearted was held for ransom here during the Crusades. 7.  DÜRNSTEIN / WACHAU VALLEY CRUISE Join a local guide for a morning walking tour of Dürnstein’s cobblestone streets where you’ll see some 16th-century Baroque houses and a 13th-century Romanesque church. Explore the town on your own, or take a walk with your Tauck Director up to the ruins of Kuenringerburg Castle for lovely views of Dürnstein and the Danube. You’ll have an opportunity to sample some of the wine the region is known for at a wine tasting at a local Wachau region winery before rejoining your riverboat. The Blue Danube continues with an afternoon of cruising through some of Germany’s most picturesque scenery. See lush vineyards, ancient castles, old-world towns and monasteries – the Wachau Valley was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved medieval landscapes and towns. 8.  SALZBURG AND LINZ


You have a choice today; enjoy the town of Linz, Austria, as you wish, or join us for a full-day excursion to enchanting Salzburg, composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s hometown on the Salzach River. A pageant of beautiful Baroque architecture awaits on a guided walking tour through Salzburg’s narrow lanes and old squares. Climb up several floors for a look inside the house where Mozart was born in 1756, and the eclectic museum that now resides within; and visit lovely Mirabell Gardens, adorned with Baroque statues and fountains, before rejoining the riverboat for dinner tonight, bound for Passau, Germany.
