ASSISI / UMBRIA / WINE TASTING In the medieval hill town of Assisi – a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its artistic and architectural riches – visit the Basilica di San Francesco, built by the citizens to honor the town’s most famous son, St. Francis, whose tomb lies within. A local expert shares insights about the basilica’s 13th- and 14th-century frescoes on a guided tour. Attend a wine tasting and lunch at the osteria of a famed winery before returning to Perugia. 6. SIENA’S DUOMO / TUSCANY / FLORENCE Wind your way through idyllic Tuscan landscapes to Siena. Join your local guide on a tour of the Duomo, Siena’s black-and-white masterpiece of a cathedral, and see the Piazza del Campo, where the city’s world-famous horse race, the Palio, is run twice each year. Continue on to Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance, for a two-night stay. Visit the Galleria dell’Accademia, Europe’s oldest art school and home of Michelangelo’s statue of David.
