Tauck runs 19 Yellow Roads journeys across Europe, including new tours to Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Prague, Austria and Italy

Tauck combines Yellow Road travels with cruises to the Scottish Isles, the Baltic Sea, the Greek Isles and the Western Mediterranean

THE VISION


It’s been 20 years since we introduced our Yellow Roads journeys to our guests, inspiring a new way to travel in Europe that today is a benchmark for enriching, experiential travel. It all started with Arthur Tauck Jr.’s fond memories of exploring Europe’s country roads by bicycle during his years in the service, sitting down for a chat – and a colorful story or two – with the locals in villages right out of Grimm’s fairy tales and enjoying those special unexpected moments that make all the difference in a memorable and authentic experience... a personal introduction to Paddy Fenton of Molanna’s dairy farm in Ireland... an all-night discussion about skiing – and subsequently, business – with the owner of a little Swiss inn who finally granted Tauck exclusivity to his idyllic property at the foot of the Jungfrau... an inpromptu trek along the narrow pathways of Cinque Terre in time to greet fishing boats returning with the day’s catch at a small seaside hamlet, and an outstanding, fresh fish dinner... without crowds.

THE ARCHITECTS


Our trio of European travel experts, Arthur Tauck Jr., Scott Supernaw and Herbert Wiese headed off to Europe in 1990 to turn Arthur’s vision of intimate European travel into reality. They found it along the secondary roads and routes marked in yellow on Europe’s Michelin maps, scenic byways that weaved in and out of small colorful villages, over pristine rivers and streams, along lakes and over mountains passes that seemed to be reserved for local traffic and not buses, trucks or other commercial vehicles. They sought out unique experiences that went beyond traditional “must-see” ones, moments that would provide our guests with a truly memorable European experience, ones they would want to share with their friends upon their return home. And like every great travelogue – and every Yellow Roads of Europe journey – there’s a story behind each innovation, one that gets more memorable each time you tell it.
