School of Environmental Science & Management, University of California, Santa Barbara. AECOM’s global environmental practice, a world leader in developing environmental solutions, is advancing the understanding, application and potentially beneficial uses of nanotechnology in additional projects around the world. In other nanomaterial-related projects, AECOM en- vironmental scientists and engineers are pilot testing the use of nZVI – nanoscale Zero Valent Iron, a na- nomaterial that is proving effective in treating con- taminated groundwater and soils – for remediating sites with contaminated groundwater, and AECOM’s Toxicology Laboratory in Fort Collins, has performed preliminary investigations on the aquatic toxicity of nZVI and other nanomaterials. In Australia, AECOM economists and other technical experts analyzed the social and economic impacts of nanotechnology in the health & medicine, energy, water and food sectors for the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. http://www.aecom.com

Series”, for detecting mechanism operation in automotive and home appliances. Sample ship- ments will commence in September of this year. The SPVQ8 Series achieves a 50% reduction in volume (body size: W 8.3mm X D 5.3mm X H 6.5mm), compared to the conventio- nal product (SPVQ3 Series: W 13.0mm X D 5.8mm

Furthermore, ALPS ELECTRIC will start trial ship- ments this month of its new SCGC1B03 Series, an 8-pin SIM card connector to be used in mobile phones and car navigation systems. ALPS has develo- ped a series of SIM card type connectors with a mo- ving vehicle’s environment in mind. The SCGC1B03 Series is the industry’s first connector that automa- tically locks the card in when inserted to prevent accidental ejection. This unique auto-lock system has been vigorously tested to function properly against the vibration and impact that occur in a moving vehi- cle. To eject the card and release the auto-lock, the user simply pushes the card a second time. Moreo- ver, the SCGC1B03 Series prevents improper card insertion as the card cannot be fully inserted if it is oriented incorrectly. http://www.alps.com/products/e/npv_product/100917_ SCGC/SCGC_E.PDF
