The three-dimensional formable hardcoat film Ma- krofol®

HF, for example, is a recent product inno-

vation. The basis for the film’s excellent formability – which also enables narrow radii and high depths of draw – is that the scratch-resistant coating is only pre-cured and is not completely cured with standard UV lamps until forming is finished.

The polycarbonate film produces surfaces with a deep gloss finish that are highly resistant to chemi- cals and abrasion. When working with 3D display elements, for example, they are ideal for increasingly popular high-gloss piano finishes in combination with “vanish-effect” technologies. These make the con- tours of light symbols appear to vanish when these are switched off (Black Panel Technology).

Following the acquisition of Artificial Muscle Inc., BMS also has the know-how to manufacture elec- trically activated, artificial muscles as actuators and sensors and integrate them into systems. http://www.k2010.bayermaterialscience.com

Furthermore, at the Innotrans trade fair end of September 2010 in Berlin, Germany, Bayer Materi- alScience (BMS) presented innovative solutions using sheets made from the polycarbonate (PC) Makrolon® and the PC+ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) blend Bayblend® use of Makrolon® tion applications.

n June 2001, Cambridge NanoTech, the world leader in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) science

and equipment, announced the delivery of its 200th ALD system. Cambridge NanoTech attributes this milestone to an increasingly widespread acceptance of this technology and the unique qualities that the Company brings to the ALD community. Roger Coutu, VP of Engineering at Cambridge NanoTech, recognizes the significance of this milestone: “This indicates two points. Firstly, there has been a general market acceptance of this technology, and secondly, this validates our belief that the technology will be more accessible, affordable, and ubiquitous through designs that are less complex.” Cambridge NanoTech announced further that Foun- der and CEO Dr. Jill S. Becker received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year®

2010 Award in

It is currently developing a polycarbonate sheet 18 millimeters thick that can cut noise levels by 36 decibels (dB) – significantly more than the 28 dB re- duction stipulated by the legislators. Noise protection walls can be installed along both freeways and rail
