anosys, Inc., an advanced materials architect, announced the opening of a new subsidiary,

Nanosys Korea, Inc. with facilities in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The company named former LG Electronics vice president Dr. Jong-Uk Bu as president of Nano- sys Korea, Inc., which will support its growing Korean and Asian customer base.

“Samsung Electronics and LG Innotek have demons- trated the visionary nature of the Korean electronics industry by adopting new architected material solu- tions that deliver exponential performance results” This year, Nanosys commercialized its quantum dot technology with the QuantumRail™, a process- ready component that improves LED backlit display color gamut and efficiency, and has announced partnerships with LG Innotek and Samsung Electro- nics. The Company is currently working with major battery manufacturers to improve lithium-ion battery capacity using its SiNANOde™, a silicon composite material that can increase battery cell capacity by up to 40%. N

anotherapeutics, Inc., has filed an Investigatio- nal New Drug (IND) Application with the Food

and Drug Administration (FDA) for NanoDTPA™ an orally administered capsule that is a less invasive treatment alternative to the FDA approved injectable Zn-DTPA (diethylenetriamine pentacetic acid). DTPA is used to remove radioactive compounds from the body to help eliminate the contamination. The Na- noDTPA™ capsule is a unique orally-bioavailable fine particle formulation that allows DTPA to be absorbed into the body from the gastrointestinal tract.

Preclinical studies of NanoDTPA™ Zn-DTPA capsu- le demonstrated strong pharmacokinetic and safety profiles. The IND will allow the company to begin clinical trials of the capsule to determine dosing, safety, and efficacy of this alternative formulation. There is also potential for use of NanoDTPA™ for iron chelation to treat iron overload. http://www.nanotherapeutics.com

ational Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: NSM) unveiled the industry’s first eight-channel ultra-

sound transmit/receive chipset specifically designed for portable ultrasound systems used in hospitals, cli- nics, ambulances and remote point-of-care facilities. The PowerWise®

chipset’s innovative circuit archi-

tecture enables the design of both hand-carried and handheld units that deliver longer battery life and imaging performance comparable to larger console systems.

National provides a complete eight-channel transmit/ receive chipset, including receive analog front end (AFE), transmit/receive switch, transmit pulser and configurable transmit beamformer. This high-level of integration allows system designers to build light- weight 128-channel portable ultrasound systems with enhanced image quality and diagnostics in a small footprint. National supports the chipset with com- prehensive evaluation kits, reference schematics and tools that help customers make detailed chip perfor- mance evaluations and accelerate time-to-market. Furthermore, National Semiconductor Corp. an- nounced that the company’s SolarMagic™ SM3320 smart panel chipset has received the Solar Industry Award for the “Energy Usage Enabling” category, which recognizes technologies and processes that enable better energy usage.
