1. Arrive Arusha, Tanzania Tour departs: Kilimanjaro International Airport. A transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arumeru River Lodge is included upon your arrival; the lodge is set within 12 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.

2. Kilimanjaro and Arusha national parks Your safari* begins at Mount Kilimanjaro – one of the world’s highest mountains and one of its highest volcanoes. While we won’t be climbing all the way to the top, you can walk up the Merengu trail, then visit a woman of the Chagga tribe in her traditional home. Alternatively, in our open-top safari vehicle, go on a full-day game drive in Arusha National Park. This park has an amazing diversity of habitats where you can look for giraffes, baboons, flamingos, leopards, spotted hyenas, zebra and buffalo. Everyone meets back at the lodge late day for a welcome dinner. Meals BLD

4. Learning from the Maasai Begin the day with a morning game drive in Tarangire, then learn what it takes to make colorful beadwork – plus how to throw a spear and shoot a bow and arrow – from members of a local Maasai tribe. This evening, you’ll have an opportunity for some amazing views on a visit to “The Viewpoint,” and return to camp to dig into a barbecue dinner and learn about Maasai dances! Meals BLD

5. A village school and a birder’s paradise En route to Lake Manyara for wildlife viewing, meet and spend some time with the students and teacher of a primary school that Tauck helps support. Go on a game drive in the floodplains of Lake Manyara National Park, then travel to your lodge accommodations that are overlooking a 500-acre coffee plantation. Meals BLD

6. Exploring Africa’s Garden of Eden Hop aboard an open-top safari vehicle for game drives and a picnic lunch in two-million-year-old Ngorongoro Crater, a great place to spot Africa’s “Big Five” – buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and the rare black rhinoceros. Return to your lodge for dinner. Meals BLD
