Camera used SRW-9000 Production company Bray Leino DoP Michael Wood was impressed with the creative possibilities of the SRW- 9000 on this series of idents for Freederm. Using Sony’s S-Log Gamma he managed 11 stops of light sensitivity, thanks to the camera’s Super 35mm CCD sensor, putting the SRW-9000 in the same dynamic range as the F35. FOREVERMARK DE BEERS CORPORATE Camera used HDW-F900R Production company Crossfire This three week corporate video shoot for De Beers aims to tell the story of a De Beers diamond from “mine to finger”. Shot in Milan, Antwerp and Botswana, the team went for the HDW-F900R because of its reputation for robustness and flexibilty. The result was very high quality, detailed high definition images of the gemstones.

Production company Mentorn Media This eight-part travelogue sees comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant send their colleague Karl Pilkington – a sceptic on the benefits of international travel – to visit wonders such as the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids and Peru’s Machu Picchu. The globe-trotting Sky1 series was shot on a combination of Sony file-based cameras shooting to XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX formats. See pages 16-17 (People Focus)

INDIETRACKS FESTIVAL
Camera supplied by Pro Motion Hire Production company Que Pasa Communications Red Bull has given some of the UK’s most promising musical talent the chance to perform at festivals up and down the country, including Download, T In The Park and Underage Festival, with the results recorded in HD by Que Pasa. According to head of production Mark Antonello, Pro Motion Hire’s versatile EX3s were ideal as the lense options and tapeless workflows worked brilliantly in a festival environment, where content production is at the mercy of the weather, bands and the location.

Co-created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, this remake of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. For DoP Steve Lawes, the F35 was the best camera for the job because of its 35mm sized CCD, ability to shoot in low light, plus top-quality 4:4:4 recording to HDCAM SR tape and the ability to use Prime lenses with the camera’s PL mount. Produced by Hartswood’s Sue Vertue, the 3x90-minute feature length films were one of the BBC’s biggest hits of the summer and Hartswood is currently working on a follow-up series.

Production company Talkback Thames/Syco ITV’s decision to shoot the latest series of its biggest entertainment show on XDCAM required a rethink of the show’s entire production and post production set up, with 15 PDW-F800s forming the backbone of the new system shooting over 6,000 hours of material to Dual Layer Professional Discs at 50Mb/s.
