essential selection Chilled out
Breaking the mould of typical industrial chillers the new Top Therm modular units from Rittal are integrated into a standard Rittal TS 8 enclosure system that can be stand alone or part of a suite of panels. Three modules, namely the hydraulic, cooling and electrical modules make up the system and the air intake can be changed depending on the application. A vertical arrangement means that space saving on site can be significant. With seven performance categories from 8kW to 40kW cooling capacity, the modular design concept uses identical components throughout the range. Added benefits include shorter delivery times with pre- configured standard modules; reduced cost due to standardised modular components and fast service due to less complexity. Standard items are a water bypass for optimum reliability, a flow meter and a dual frequency design suitable for international projects. The complete range is covered in four enclosure sizes made up of a combination of only two enclosures. For further information visit:

Draka Communications has launched two new marine cabling solutions that together meet the demand for increased sophistication and reliability of communications infrastructures on board modern shipping. Draka’s two new Category 7 cables offer coherent solutions for extreme environments, high security LAN interconnections and the increased cabling density required for in cabin multimedia communications. Draka ToughCat7 is a stranded copper S/FTP data communications cable designed to withstand the mechanical vibrations in the most demanding of marine environments. This latest version of Draka’s ToughCat product line provides exceptional transmission characteristics and is certified to DNV and ABS standards. The rugged cable comprises four vibration proof, twin pair tinned copper wires with aluminium laminated plastic foil around each pair, and a copper braid screen protected by a plastic sheath. Designed to future proof the evolving need for sophisticated passenger services,
Draka UC900 SS23 flame resistant Category 7 cable complements the ToughCat 7 and meets current 10Gb Base-T demands for in cabin entertainment and communications. The four twisted pair solid core copper wires are sheathed in foam skin polyethylene, screened with copper braid and enclosed by an aluminium sheath. For further information visit:

Track record
Fast track switching is an innovative new Ethernet based switching technology developed by Harting that is ideally suited to communication and control of theatre, concert and indoor/outdoor event automation systems. Ethernet is now the adopted networking standard for automation and the theatre environment is no exception. Applications include networked controls for hoists and other stage machinery. Unlike alternative proprietary Ethernet protocol
approaches which use modified versions of the Ethernet standard compatible with the requirements of different industries, fast track switching is totally based on standard Ethernet, but adds a new switching method to ensure that industry specific requirements on performance and determinism are fully met. The key components in fast track switching are Fast Ethernet switches in Harting’s Ha-VIS FTS 3,000 product family, which can detect and identify customised automation profiles, accelerate their data transmission speeds and prioritise them. The detection, acceleration and prioritisation mechanisms guarantee the necessary determinism and performance that the end user technology demands. For further information visit:

Haul or nothing
CNT braided cable and connectors from Andrew Solutions, the CommScope wireless communications systems and products division, are cost effective cable solutions for connecting indoor and outdoor units in wireless backhaul networks. CNT coax offers electrical performance comparable
to corrugated copper cables in these applications, but with higher flexibility and simplified connectorisation at a lower cost. Andrew’s proven braiding technology helps ensure low signal loss, offering lower attenuation at every frequency. Even when flexed into a tight bend radius, CNT cable minimises loss while maintaining electrical performance. Andrew’s CNT cables are supported by the company’s global supply chain and logistics operations, ensuring cost effective solutions worldwide. Andrew recently expanded its CNT distribution channel in Europe. CNT assemblies can be deployed in almost any indoor or outdoor space constrained area, including in building, in cabinet, tower top, and GPS installations, among many others.
